What we do. Our Priorities

We advocate and shape policy.

At AusBiotech, we know that the life sciences industry is a sleeping giant of Australia’s future economy. The work of our members is crucial to the future health and wealth of our nation and their capability is critical to our country’s ongoing health security.

There has never been a more important time for Australia to harness its world-class health and medical research strengths to build, scale, and retain a globally competitive biotechnology and medical technology industry – one focused on translation, development and commercialisation, with world-class manufacturing capability.

As we progress through 2025, AusBiotech is delivering a bipartisan advocacy agenda focused on four key asks of government:

  • Developing Australia’s first whole-of-government National Life Sciences Strategy to set clear policy priorities and eliminate gaps and overlaps.
  • Establishing an Australian Life Sciences Council, a partnership between industry and government to drive this Strategy, address sector challenges and ensure value for investment.
  • Investing in data collection to drive innovation and improve policy and decision-making.
  • Recognising life sciences as a priority under the government’s industry policy frameworks.

Progress happens when industry and government work together. Throughout 2025 we will supercharge our advocacy efforts to drive meaningful change, prosecute our asks, and ensure that members' voices guide us every step of the way.

We create connections.

With our unrivalled national convening power, we bring together Australia’s life sciences ecosystem and partner globally, to drive innovation and create new opportunities for collaboration.

Conferences and Events

Through our annual portfolio of industry leading conferences and events we work to actively foster connection between research, industry, service provision and the investment community to foster an environment that bridges research and impactful real-world solutions for the benefit of all our members.

We are proud to deliver Australia’s largest international biotechnology conference, AusBiotech, and its medtech twin, AusMedtech, which attract thousands of local and global life sciences leaders, investors, service providers and government supporters annually.

Connecting industry in Australia and globally.

As a super-connector for Australia’s life sciences ecosystem, we are proud to partner with global peers, other Australian peak bodies, and state- based organisations to help our members thrive.

AusBiotech is the Australian member and active participant of the International Council of Biotechnology Associations. This is an important forum for discussions regarding trade and global partnership on behalf of our sector.

We house the Australian Life Science Innovation Directory, a database of innovative companies, to help enable connection and inform local and global partnership opportunities.

We also work in partnership with state- based organisations advocating for their local biotechnology and medical technology ecosystems. We currently have MOUs in place with BioMelbourne Network, Life Sciences Queensland, Life Sciences WA and BioNSW.

We enable learning and knowledge-sharing.

With nearly 40 years of experience and more than 3,000 members, AusBiotech connects with sector-wide expertise across Australia’s life sciences ecosystem. This legacy positions us as a trusted conduit for enabling ongoing learning and knowledge sharing to help life science companies to thrive.

Our diverse and expert membership community is a rich source of knowledge and best practice. We leverage this knowledge via our extensive Committee and Advisory Group structures to help our members share knowledge appropriately.
